PURPOSE STATEMENT
The goal of this symposium is to present evidence on controversial issues faced by emergency medicine physicians.  This program features a lively debate-style format involving 9 emergency medicine experts.  They will deliver their arguments both for and against interventions in the areas of acute coronary syndrome, PCI post lytics & facilitated PCI, heart failure, and blood pressure control and stroke.  After each session of debate and crossfire, attendees can then take their turn asking questions directed to the protagonist and the antagonist.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed for emergency medicine physicians and hospitalists

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Understand both the benefits and uncertainties associated with the use of PCI
    versus lysis

  • Describe the best practices for the treatment of ADHF, with specific attention to current information on patient treatment experiences and outcomes

  • Determine which procedure or treatment will deliver optimal efficacy and safety in consideration of an ACS patient’s risk factors when presenting in the ER

  • Describe the inherent benefits associated with methods of upstream management
    of ACS

  • Define the benefits related to different agents for lowering blood pressure and recognize the choices necessary in hypertensive emergencies
